It depends on the terms of the acquisition. We generally encourage a seller to remain in the business in some capacity following an exit. This might include a management role or joining the board as an advisor or consultant to the business. The terms of the sell will include options for an owner to remain involved.

One way that we do this, is through some creative funding structures that can minimize tax implications when this approach is appropriate. If needed, we can refer you to other financial advisors in our network that specialize in post-acquisition tax and financial planning for sellers.
